Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving has long been one of my favorite holidays. The relative lack of a monetary focus, the family, the food — all of that has reserved a warm place in my heart for every November at this time.

Every year I do it — think through the many things I have to be thankful for. This year, I’m sharing it with you.

I’m thankful to have a warm home, four walls, and a roof over my head. Running water — both hot and cold — and indoor plumbing. There were some Thanksgivings spent without that when I was a child, and I haven’t forgotten. I’m thankful for a loving, thoughtful husband who always makes me laugh. For the chance to spend this day surrounded by family and heaps of laughter (and some alcohol) and some very happy dogs.

And, gentle viewers, I’m thankful for you. Every day I stop by here and see that you’ve been around, it makes me happy in a way I didn’t know existed. All my life I’ve dreamed of sharing my words with people, and today I want to thank you for stopping by each day to collect what I put on the windowsill for you. With your help, someday it will be more than just a jumble of words and pictures — perhaps it will have a binding and covers that hold it together in one neat, package.

Today, I’m thankful. Very thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just another day to share.
