Friday Fellow: Anna Meade

So last night I printed out my massive manuscript and started a Twitter conversation with a few people about it. When I saw the mountain of paper that resulted from this printing job, I may or may not have used a rather unusual phrase to describe my surprise, which spawned about an hour of back and forth tweeting with the lovely Ms. Anna Meade — most of it consisting of her accusing me of attempting to murder her with my fart jokes. (Just be glad it wasn’t actual farts…we all have our secret weapons. Let’s just say I have a solid defense mechanism.)

Anyway, bodily functions aside, Anna keeps an excellent blog called Yearning for Wonderland. It’s a wondrous place indeed, backed by music that makes me drool and perhaps the most welcoming atmosphere I’ve seen in any snuggly corner of the internet. In her post about the transition of 2011 to 2012, she said that she wanted to create “a tiny spot of serenity where true hearts could feel at home.”

I think she has succeeded beyond her own expectations.

Not only does she make her blog a beacon for people searching for beauty and kindness, but she gets to interview some spectacular human beings. Artists, writers, musicians — even a Twitter exchange with Neil Gaiman?! I remember when I first read Coraline as a high school student — I can’t imagine coming face to face (or in this case, tweet to tweet) with the man himself. That might just bring me back to the bodily function thing again.

Her blog is home to insightful book reviews and thoughts in general. And did I mention the music? I did, but I’ll say it again — I’ve left her blog open while I do other things just to hear the strains of Yann Tiersen’s Amelie soundtrack among other instances of auditory loveliness.

So, gentle viewers, do join me in welcoming Anna Meade into the fold of the Friday Fellows. Check out her blog, follow her on Twitter, and just generally let her know she’s a badass.

Welcome to the Friday Fellows, Anna!

For Anna!

  1. Anna is the best, even though she regularly devours my internal organs.

  2. That is because your internal organs are delicious and contain needed vitamins, Daniel. Would you deny me needed vitamins? I mean, be real 😉

Emmie, this post was such a bright spot in my otherwise gloomy, almost grumpified day. Your sincere compliments mean a great deal. Thank you so much!
